At Animal Eye Care of New England, we help families and referring veterinarians find answers and a reason to feel hopeful. Led by board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist Dr. Isabel Jurk, our practice provides specialized eye care for dogs, cats, horses, birds, alpacas, and many other animals. Clients travel to our practice in Whately, Massachusetts from Boston, Providence, Bridgeport, Connecticut, and many other cities and states for specialized eye care.
Eyes are all we do, but we know that every patient has their own needs. We love getting to know each pet we care for. Dr. Jurk founded Animal Eye Care of New England in 2007 to give animals access to dedicated ophthalmic care in a setting designed around their comfort. Today, the entire team continues to invest in education, equipment, and techniques that help us care for pets with a wide range of eye conditions.
That expertise also comes with compassion. We know that an eye problem can be worrying, especially when treatment takes time. We’ll be honest about what your pet needs, make room for your questions, and help you understand what to expect.

Specialized Eye Care, Centered on Your Pet
Some patients visit us once for an expert opinion. Others return for treatment, surgery, and follow-up care over months or years. We value each of those relationships.
Dr. Jurk designed our practice with those visits in mind. Cats and dogs have separate waiting areas, and our facility also has space to care for horses and other large animals that includes stalls at the back of the practice, and a barn-like garage entrance that provides access for large patients.
These details help us welcome patients with very different needs while giving them and their families a place to feel comfortable.
Answers for a Wide Range of Eye Conditions
Eye problems can have similar symptoms but require very different care. Our veterinary ophthalmology team evaluates conditions affecting the eyelids, cornea, lens, retina, and other parts of the eye. These includes cataracts, glaucoma, dry eye, corneal ulcers, and abnormal eyelashes such as distichia or ectopic cilia.
The first step is finding out what is happening. Dr. Jurk uses specialized equipment to examine the eye closely, measure eye pressure, or look at structures that cannot be seen during a routine exam. These findings help us understand the condition and recommend care for your pet.
Eye Care for Many Species
Eye anatomy and care needs vary across species. Our practice welcomes companion animals, horses, alpacas, and other large animals, as well as exotic pets. If you have a question about care for a particular species, please contact our team before scheduling.
